The Health Center is the only safety net dental practice on the Leeward Coast and currently serves approximately 2,618 patients who make about 6,100 visits annually, of which 4,200 of the visits are uninsured or covered by Medicaid.

Our current dental facility was constructed in 1995 and consists of six operatories.  Previous to the newer facility, which was built through funding from the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation, the Health Center had performed dental services onsite through a two operatory clinic.

Dental staff currently consists of 2.8 FTE General Practitioner dentists, a 0.4 FTE pedodontist, one dental hygienist, one dental resident, and ten dental support staff.

The Health Center is currently an Advanced Education General Dentistry residency site affiliated with New York Lutheran Medical Center.  Each year, a minimum of one new resident is accepted at the Health Center to gain additional clinical and patient management skills that will develop them into exceptional providers.

In the summer of 2008, the Health Center will be expanding its program by adding a Pedodontic residency program to train dental graduates to specialize in the treatment of children. This will add an additional two residents a year, opening up access to care for children that now must travel out of the Waianae Coast for specialized care.

With the support of the community, the Health Center has identified area elementary schools as optimal sites for early intervention/screening processes, basic preventive service delivery, and patient referral to providers for follow up and treatment.  The Health Center has implemented screening services at three elementary schools on the Waianae Coast and plans to expand to all schools over the next two years.
